Let AI Search and Open Web Pages on Your Device

Cumbersome gives supported models a local search and browser tool. The app can search, open several pages, and extract readable text on your device before the selected model writes an answer. You can see every tool action in the conversation.

The final answer can cite the pages the local browser opened.

Use local browsing when provider search is too opaque

Provider web search can be useful, but the provider decides how it searches and what it returns. Cumbersome also offers a browser that runs through your device. The model asks for searches and page loads, while the app performs them and returns extracted page content to the conversation.

Headless mode avoids opening browser windows and can run up to three searches or page loads at once. Leave it off when you want to watch the pages open or interact with a difficult site yourself.

  1. 1Enable Local Web Search and Local Web Browser in Settings.
  2. 2Ask the model to search, crawl, compare sources, or open a specific page.
  3. 3Expand any local tool row to inspect the search, page, and extracted content.
  4. 4Check the linked sources before relying on a time-sensitive answer.

Keep the tool trail instead of hiding it

Each search, page open, and extraction appears as a tool event. The result is easier to audit because you can see which sites contributed to the answer. This is especially useful for research that requires several sources rather than a single opaque search summary.

Searches, page loads, and extraction steps stay visible in the conversation.
Choose provider search, local search, a visible browser, or headless browsing.

What to know before you use it

  • Some sites block automated browsing, require a login, or render content the extractor cannot read.
  • Local browsing runs on your device, but extracted text is sent to the AI provider you selected so it can answer.
  • A cited source can still be wrong or out of date. Open important sources and verify them.
